New Candidates Face Challenges Breaking In
... they think is valuable.". Gruber, meanwhile, has assembled a diverse advisory council of about 30 people. What he doesn't have is someone who has run a campaign before. "Everybody in the city who has that (political) pedigree is part of a system already," Gruber said. "I don't have political insiders who are willing to work with me, explicitly, on my campaign. There are things I am not going to know — until it's too late.". Lupien also has found the cupboard bare when it comes to tapping political expertise. Her campaign manager does public relations for a local college and has experience managing projects but not campaigns. The low-profile, generally low-budget council race also is a factor, she said. Still, said Christopher, who is sitting out this election cycle, general dissatisfaction with the status quo makes this a good year to be an outsider. "This is a historic moment," Dunwoody ...
Breaking Down Biomass And Bioenergy
... biomass refers to "organic material" which comes from animals and plants. It encompasses everything from wood and crops to rubbish. The U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) has described biomass as being the planet's only renewable energy source that is able to "offer a viable supplement to petroleum-based liquid transportation fuels… in the near to mid-term.". Tham KC | i Stock | Getty Images. Once you have your biomass, you need to turn it into something useful. The European Commission describes bioenergy as being produced when biomass sources are converted to produce a range of "useful energy carriers" such as electricity, heat and fuels for transport. The International Energy Agency (IEA) has described bioenergy as the world's "single largest renewable energy source today.". The IEA adds that it is responsible for around 10 percent of the world's primary energy supply. It's important to note that biomass, and the products produced from it, such as biofuels, have an ...
Two Months In, Trump Breaking Every Vow To 'drain The Swamp
... were painfully inadequate, yet we at least imagined that the fanfare with which they were announced would cause someone to feel accountable to implementing them within the government," said Lisa Gilbert, vice president of legislative affairs for Public Citizen. "Sadly, they have been unable to effectively follow even these milquetoast commitments, and the Trump administration is well on its way to becoming the most scandal-ridden administration in history.". David Donnelly, president and CEO of Every Voice, a group that fights against big money in politics, added, "Every day that Donald Trump refuses to take his conflicts of interest and the threat of wealthy special interest influence in his administration seriously, he fails the millions of voters who supported him because of their sincere belief ...

Japanese Company Develops A Solar Cell With Record-breaking 26%+ Efficiency
... group of researchers funded by a Japanese government program develops “industrially compatible” cells. Enlarge / A solar cell with 26.3 percent efficiency. Photovoltaic & Thin Film Research Laboratories (Kaneka corporation). Solar panels are cheaper than ever these days, but installation costs can still be considerable for homeowners. More efficient solar panels can recapture the cost of their installation more quickly, so making panels that are better at converting sunlight into electricity is a key focus of solar research and development. The silicon-based cells that make up a solar panel have a theoretical efficiency limit of 29 percent, but so far that number has proven elusive. Practical efficiency rates in the low-20-percent range have been considered very good for commercial solar panels. But researchers with Japanese chemical manufacturer Kaneka Corporation have built a solar cell with a photo conversion rate of 26.3 percent, breaking the previous record of 25.6 percent. Although it’s just a 2.7 percent increase in efficiency, improvements in commercially viable solar cell technology are increasingly hard-won. Not only that, but the researchers ...

... high on Yankoff for a very long time. He believes the Huskies are getting a special talent. "This is one of the best quarterbacks in the 2018 class and his ceiling is as high as any in the country," said Simmons. "You look at his size at nearly 6-4, his athleticism with a 4.7 40 and a 39-inch vertical, and his production on the high school level, which has been outstanding. Then you take all of those things and you consider that this is a kid that can't throw year round due to the weather in Idaho. He's a multi-sport athlete that just finished his basketball season. He's a competitor and a winner. Combine all that and you realize that this kid is only scratching the surface on his development.
