Turbulent Times Were Foreseen

... for turbulent times Saturday morning during the 187 th Annual General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Speaking at the church’s Conference Center and broadcast to members throughout the world, general authorities Saturday spoke of repenting and turning to a Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ before and during trials. Speaking of his own experiences at the hands of bullies,  Elder Dale G. Renlund,  of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, encouraged members to accept others as they are. “Church history gives ample evidence of our members being treated with hatred and bigotry,” he said. “How ironically sad it would be if we were to treat others as we have been treated.”. He reminded everyone of  Matthew 7:12 : “Whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them.”. Accepting others helps in drawing toward Jesus Christ, he said. “The message for us is clear, a repenting sinner draws closer to God ...

Finding Peace A Focus In Women's Session Of Mormon General Conference

... "loving unity" among family and church groups is difficult to maintain, Eyring said, it requires the companionship of the Holy Ghost to "open our eyes and temper our feelings.". Oneness will come as people look at one another "with the pure love of Christ," he said. Holiness is another virtue that brings peace, said Carol F. Mc Conkie, first counselor of the Young Women General Presidency. It comes from keeping covenants, relying on the Holy Ghost and using the gift of Jesus Christ's sacrifice, she said. It requires a conscious effort to set aside time to meditate, study and pray, Mc Conkie said. Bonnie H. Cordon, second counselor of the Primary General Presidency, added that trusting in God and serving others can bring serenity, even as the person serving experiences challenges in her own life, such as sickness, loss and depression. The auxiliary leaders and Eyring were accompanied by fellow counselor President Dieter F. Uchtdorf; apostles Jeffrey R. Holland, Todd D. Christofferson, Ronald A. ...

... of the Church will shine brighter and brighter unto the perfect day.”. Second, “the light of the gospel is the path that ‘shineth more and more unto the perfect day’ (Proverbs 4:8) and it shines brightest in our families and in temples throughout the world,” he said. Elder Bragg promised that as individuals establish families of “faith, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, and compassion” (“The Family: A Proclamation to the World”), they will feel an increase in love towards the Savior and one another. Third, "you cannot speak of the light in the world without speaking of the Light of the World.". The Light of Christ is given to everyone, Elder Bragg said, and will help individuals see others through the Savior's eyes, be more loving and patient, and understand the plan of salvation. As they got up from their knees Monson looked at his elder and said, “Elder Grant, I know your problem — get over yourself.”. “He gave me a big hug,” Grant said. He recalled a meeting with the missionaries when they were singing Monson’s favorite missionary song, “Called to Serve.” Monson went to the pulpit and stopped the singing and told the missionaries they could do much better. “Whatever you do, do it well,” Monson told his missionaries. “He was a man of integrity and had a sense of humor like no other,” Grant said. “He was the life of the party at our reunions. All In Favor Of Voting Yes On Every Mormon Sustaining? Not Me

... try to be reverent in my spiritual opposition. No jumping around or yelling. No whistles, bullhorns or fireworks. What's the point in chasing off the Holy Spirit or scaring people? I just quietly raise my hand when they call for a sign from those with a different point of view. If asked from the pulpit why I'm opposed, I'll tell them. They've sometimes been disconcerted by what I have to say, but I've never been asked to leave. A few leaders have approached me after the meetings and asked the nature of my opposition. It's always couched in a tone of genuine concern, but the look on their faces clearly says, "What the hell is the matter with you?". My opposition has been publicly manifested in one stake conference, two ward conferences and a bunch of times during regular sacrament meetings. I've done it so often that my bishop is ready for me. It can still catch the occasional stake visitor off guard though. For example, when Roger, a neighbor, was called to serve as the elders quorum president in my ward, I raised my hand in opposition. High councilman: "Those opposed may do so. Wait, you're opposed, Robert?". Me: "You bet. I've had that calling ...
