Cavs Aren't Only Team Ready To Rid Themselves Of March Sadness
... trip on which the team went 4-2. Among Milwaukee’s March victims: the Clippers twice, Toronto, Portland, Atlanta and Boston. But there are teams that share the Cavs’ glum view of March. Chief among them are the Pistons, who will wrap up a 17-game month in Milwaukee, and currently stand at 6-10 in March. When the month began, they were 29-31 and holding the eighth seed. They’ve been a disaster since, with a margin of minus-4.8, and are now 2.5 games out of the playoff hunt. The arrest of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope on suspicion of DUI has only punctuated a rotten stretch in Detroit. DEVENEY: From obscurity to stardom, what's next for Giannis Antetokounmpo. It’s also been a rough March for the Hawks, who were humming along at 33-26 and seemingly comfortable in the No. 5 spot in the East when February wrapped up. But a seven-game losing streak in the meat of the month hurt Atlanta on its way to a 6-10 month, and torpedoed Hawks' stretch run. They now sit just three games above.500 and in a virtual tie for fifth with the Bucks, ...

Former Cleveland Cavaliers Gm, Nba Pioneer Wayne Embry, 80, Made A Difference In Nba
... The Velvet Dairy said, jerking a thumb toward Wayne Embry, the future general manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Embry was the only African-American on the team for the Tecumseh High School Arrows of Springfield, Ohio. "If he can't eat here, we can't eat here," said Frank Shannon, the coach, whose team was on its way to a tournament at Wittenberg University in the early 1950 s. The players rose as one and left their hamburgers and shakes on the tables. "Hey! Who's going to pay for all this?" shouted the manager. "You are," said Shannon, walking out. That incident, from "The Inside Game," former Plain Dealer colleague Mary Schmitt Boyer's biography of Embry, shows what Embry, who turned 80 last Sunday, went through. He was spurned by Dayton, which was a national power at the time. Although Embry was a second-team All-Ohio player, he wound up at Miami (Ohio). Dayton wasn't ...
Lebron James, Cavs Somehow Hold Off Paul George And Pacers In Double Ot, 135-130
... played Sunday evening. But James had enough for one more 3-pointer on an historic night for him, and the Cavs battled through all kinds of mistakes and adversity (and George) to beat the Pacers 135-130 in double overtime Sunday night. James finished with 41 points, 16 rebounds, and 11 assists for his 11 th triple-double this season and 53 rd (regular season) of his career. But James' only points after the fourth quarter were a 3-pointer with 57.8 seconds remaining for a four-point advantage. A bunch of stuff happened after that, and we'll get to it, but it momentarily stopped George's 16-0 run on him through the two overtimes. George finished with 43 points, nine boards, and nine assists, with 19 of those points coming in the extra sessions. George had 13 points alone in the second overtime. He answered James' 3-pointer with another of his own with 49.7 to go, causing James and ...
Is The Beat Writer Worried About The Cavaliers? 'hey, Joe
... (read Kevin Love and J. R. Smith) could come together almost by accident. So am I worried about the Cavs' playoff future? Not yet. Hey, Joe: Le Bron James is not right. Can't tell if it is physical or emotional. The whole team seems to be sleepwalking. What is the story? - Mark, Dubois, Penn. Hey, Mark: Entering play Thursday, James was averaging 27.2 points with nine double-doubles and four triple-doubles in March. Then against the Bulls, he poured in 26 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out eight assists. So make that 10 double-doubles this month in 16 games - 12 on the road. He also nearly pulled the backboard down with some nasty, hard dunks this week. So I feel pretty good about him. Hey, Joe: When do we get a real coach? - Ted, Akron. Hey, Ted: The date was Jan. 22, 2016. End of discussion. But I will give you that we haven't seen a ton from Tyronn Lue this month in terms of adjustments. Lue made his decision on a rotation when he finally had his full complement of players, and the team was healthy for all of two games. Lue is staying incredibly calm while the losing mounts. His demeanor is why the players trust him implicitly, and he was widely praised ...
Can The Cavs Flip The Switch In The Playoffs
... that others are not. No group of players has made more of the postseason’s blank slate than this one—particularly in the elevation of their defense. It wouldn’t be unfounded for Cleveland to hone its focus and impede every opponent in their playoff path. That kind of shift, however, seems further out of reach for this year’s teams than previous ones. Read between the lines of Le Bron James’s post-game commentary. Read into Kyrie Irving’s evident frustrations. Cavs general manager David Griffin has expressed that his team plays its best as a response to adversity, yet there are cracks in Cleveland’s defensive performance that threaten to become fissures. Little in the way the Cavs are acting and reacting suggests the knowing resolve of a championship team. If James and Irving knew exactly where to locate the switch, they’d flip it. There’s no satisfaction to be had in getting punked by the Spurs on national television, much less in dropping nine of the team’s 15 games this month. So much of the Cavs’ season has come uphill. Their every performance is a ...

CLEVELAND — The home of the NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers can be deafening and blinding, as it was during parts of Friday night's game against the Philadelphia 76 ers. Yet in a room tucked within the labyrinth-like halls of Quicken Loans Arena, it was eerily quiet — by design. A sensory-inclusive room, developed by technology non-profit Kulture City is the first in an NBA arena in the country to accommodate fans with autism, dementia, post-traumatic stress disorder and similar conditions. Loud noises, flashing lights and crowds at sporting events are often obstacles to those individuals. Quicken Loans Arena. (Photo: Trepal Photography, Inc.). Are The Cavaliers Still Nba Finals Contenders
... an opponent’s top scoring option if need be, but he’s already carrying a huge burden on the offensive end. Cleveland’s offensive efficiency drops 13.6 points per 100 possessions with James on the bench. Basically, even with guys like Irving and Love, the Cavs turn from an incredible offensive team into the New York Knicks when Bron takes a seat. (For good measure, Cleveland is also a 2.7 points per 100 possessions worse defensive team when James sits.). Cleveland’s depth is also too difficult to gauge. Kyle Korver hasn’t really moved the needle, and guys like Williams, Channing Frye and Richard Jefferson all look a step slow in their advanced age. You can argue that J. R. Smith is still rounding himself into form, but he’s also shooting the worst he has from three-point range since 2010. On some level, you have to wonder if the same hunger is there for everyone on the ...
