Trevon Bluiett Makes Xavier A Threat In The Sweet 16 And Beyond
... 10-for-14. The final score: Xavier 91, FSU 66. A rout. Bluiett’s been cooking all March. He’s averaging about 20 points per game this month, a tick above his 18.1 season average. And he’s been efficient or really efficient in six of his seven March games, after frequent bouts with pure volume shooting in December and January. He’s taking and making three-pointers, and he’s had a couple of big rebounding nights, too. Bluiett’s at pretty close to his best right now. He’s thrived in big moments. His second half against Maryland felt kind of like a rescue effort. In the Big East tournament , he hit a preposterous step-back triple in the last minute against Creighton to tie the game. Trevon Bluiett stepback for the tie, Marcus Foster for the lead, JP Macura NO. Gus Johnson sums up a WILD finish. __link__/0 DMy Zm KUIA. — FS 1 (@FS 1) March 11, 2017. Xavier lost that one, but anyway. It’s close to impossible to make a deep March run without elite guard play. Bluiett gives Xavier that much, and if he gets help, the Musketeers are a lot better than a No. 11 seed. Against Maryland, ...

Xavier Was Forced To Use A Backup Point Guard, And It Made Him An X-factor
... got healthy. Goodin’s confidence grew, and he began to run the offense much more effectively. “I have to say, it sucked during the losing streak,” Goodin said. “I think we were all feeling some pressure. But we got it together at the right time and, well, here we are.”. They finally stopped the bleeding with back-to-back wins over De Paul — one to end the regular season, the other to start the Big East tournament. But it was a win over Butler in the quarterfinals that jump-started them again. “At least then, we knew we were in,” Bluiett said. “We kept hearing we were getting in anyway, but that win was important. Even when we lost close [75-72] to Creighton the next night, we knew we were okay.”. They were okay enough to be seeded 11 th in the West, avoid the Dayton play-in and draw Maryland in the first round. A 14-0 second-half run keyed their win over the Terrapins and set up Saturday’s match with the Seminoles — a team that reached ...

... this site consitutes agreement to its user agreement and privacy policy. Villanova 76, Mount St. Mary's 56: Donte Di Vincenzo scored 21 points and NCAA tournament top seed Villanova shook off a slow start and stumbled forward over No. 16 seed Mount St. Mary's. The Wildcats (32-3) weren't themselves for much of the first half before they opened the second half with a 21-6 run to take the first step toward defending their championship. Villanova is trying to be the first back-to-back titlist since Florida in 2007. Virginia 76, UNC Wilmington 71: London Perrantes scored 24 points, Marial Shayok added a career-high 23 off the bench and Virginia rallied from 15 points down to beat UNC Wilmington. Perrantes scored 19 points in the second half as the Cavaliers (23-10) got their slow-paced offense going. His biggest bucket was a driving bank shot with 1:37 remaining, which put the Cavs up 71-66. UNCW (29-6) wouldn't go away, though. Chris Flemmings drained a 3-pointer from the elbow and then Devontae Cacok hit a layup to make it ...
Success In Nyc For Xavier Despite Semifinal Exit
... for the NCAA Tournament in the media and preparing for a conference tournament is something dozens (if not hundreds) of coaches go through every year. It's part of the job and Mack did it a masterful job of it. His pre-Big East Tournament comments were persuasive and opened some minds amongst the experts and media types. Then, his team kicked down the figurative door in the tournament and finished the job. XAVIER'S BIGS CAME THROUGH IN THE CLUTCH. The Musketeers made a killing in the paint this week, scoring 98 points over three games. Of those points, Xavier's bigs accounted for about 48 percent of the scoring. Against De Paul University on Wednesday, senior Ra Shid Gaston and junior Sean O'Mara combined for 17 points in the absence of freshman Tyrique Jones, who was still recovering from concussion-like symptoms sustained in the March 4 regular-season finale at De Paul. Against Butler, Jones rejoined the platoon of Xavier bigs and the three players combined for 14 points. Against Creighton, they went for 16 points. Against the Bluejays, O'Mara might have provided the most clutch performance from a Xavier big all ...

... including a double-double from forward Jonathan Isaac, who finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Florida State had opportunities to extend that lead, getting to the free-throw line 39 times, but the team shot just 61.5 percent from the stripe. Its perimeter shooting was even worse — the Seminoles hit just 15.4 percent of shots from 3-point range. Xavier, on the other hand, played like it was the favorite against the Terrapins on Thursday, easily putting them away 76-65. Maryland actually led by one at the half, but the Musketeers scored 41 second half points to put it away. Xavier succeeded with a relatively shallow rotation, working in just three guys off the bench. However, those three players ended up scoring 30 of the team’s 76 points, including double-digit output from Sean O’Mara (18) and Kaiser Gates (11). Trevon Blueitt, Xavier’s leading scorer, was still the man for the Musketeers, however. His 21 points and 4 steals both led the team, although he did get into foul trouble, nearly fouling out of the game. The glass really proved to be the difference in the game, however. While Xavier didn’t have a double-digit rebounder, Maryland ...

Why Bill Murray Is At All These Xavier Games
... to the Round of 32, where it faces Florida State on Saturday (6:10 p.m. ET, TNT). Murray is at these games because of his son. Luke Murray is finishing up his second year as an assistant to Chris Mack, Xavier’s head coach. For the two years before that, he was an assistant at Rhode Island under Danny Hurley. And back then, Bill showed up at Luke’s games, too, because dads do that. He’s probably been showing up at Luke-coached and Luke-played games for many years. Versatility Sets Apart Michigan State Basketball Signee Xavier Tillman
... Tillman tweaking his game as high school senior. "It's just a mentality thing," Tillman said. "When you catch it, you got to have that dog in you. You got to look at the rim first in triple-threat, and that's when you look to score. When I catch in triple-threat, it helps me see the hoop and everything.". Tillman's "dog" mentality hasn't always been there, and he and Warners believe that's the best thing he improved in high school. "I've definitely improved my aggressiveness, especially when I get the ball and look to score a little more with it," Tillman said. "Post-wise, I'm more aggressive, and I make sure my body is up to the defender. I work to get to the free-throw line. "My goal is to be aggressive in every game, set the tone and make sure I'm running the court to make sure I affect each play and still get the win.". Warners said Tillman shares some ...
