The Teams Are Set For 2017 Ncaa Tournament

... Big Ten Tournament. After beating Illinois, No. 13 Purdue and Minnesota, the Wolverines already knew they were in but this victory helps their seeding even more. The incredible run through the Big Ten Tournament came after Michigan’s plane aborted takeoff and slid off the runway Wednesday night. No one was injured, but the team had to fly to D. C. Thursday morning and played its first game a couple of hours after landing. Throughout the tournament, Michigan showed off its depth of offensive options from senior point guard Derrick Walton Jr. and swingman Zak Irvin to forwards D. J. Wilson and Moe Wagner. Walton led eighth-seeded Michigan with 22 points Sunday and drew chants of “M-V-P” from the blue and gold-clad crowd as he stepped to the free throw line in the final moments. As the buzzer sounded and teammates celebrated, Walton went down on one knee at midcourt ...

... 7.3 points per game to 18.9, and his rebounding has jumped from 3.9 per game to 9.8. Collins is not the kind of player No. 6 Cincinnati will be thrilled to see in its first round game. (That’s provided Wake Forest gets through Kansas State in the play-in game). Star power: The coaches. There’s plenty of elite players in this region, as Kentucky’s Malik Monk, UNC’s Justin Jackson and UCLA’s Lonzo Ball are all among the brightest stars in the game. But consider the talent on the sideline for a minute. UNC’s Roy Williams and Kentucky’s John Calipari are Hall of Famers. Then there’s an intriguing crew that could end up being prominent faces for the next generation: Wichita State’s Gregg Marshall, Dayton’s Archie Miller, Butler’s Chris Holtmann, Cincinnati’s Mick Cronin and Minnesota’s Richard Pitino. Winthrop’s Pat Kelsey and Middle Tennessee’s Kermit Davis are both speculated as candidates for bigger jobs. That’s some serious sideline juice. One-man show: ...

Most Likely Teams To Win The 2017 Ncaa Tournament

... In that hypothetical matchup, we give the slight edge to UNC, despite the trio of likely lottery picks for Kentucky in Malik Monk, De’Aaron Fox and Edrice Adebayo. Of the six Big 12 teams, we have Kansas as the most likely championship contender, but their likelihood of winning it all (6.7 percent) is only slightly better than that of West Virginia (5.8 percent), and is far below that of the other three No. 1 seeds. In fact, according to our Power Rankings, we see West Virginia as a slightly stronger team than Kansas (No. 5 versus No. 7), even though they have twice as many losses. So why no love for Kansas? At first glance it is hard to tell. They went 16-2 in the Big 12, four games better than West Virginia or anyone else, and have only lost four games all season, and only one of those by more than four points. But the problem is that their wins haven’t been that impressive. This gets down to the ...

... Monday, the most made 3-pt FG without a miss in women's D-I history. #nightcap __link__/J 1 BOno 6 s BA. 3/7/2017, 8:00:00 AM. Good luck stopping that dominant duo. The Huskies have already bested both Baylor and Notre Dame by the score of 72-61 this season. It speaks volumes of their stranglehold over everyone that two of the nation's top-five teams could conceivably view an 11-point loss as a promising outcome. Neither of those schools reached the Final Four last year, as the Bears and Fighting Irish respectively lost to Oregon State and Stanford. After settling the Pac-12 in a 48-43 defensive grind won by the Cardinal, both teams could ride a tenacious style to another fruitful run. Then there are the other Huskies from 2016's Final Four. Seeded No. 7, Washington rode Plum to the national semifinals with four double-digit victories. The senior has not let up in 2017, recording a nation-high 31.7 points per game. On Feb. 25, as memorialized by the Pac-12 Network, she set the mark for ...

Grading Out The Selection Committee

... Unfortunately, teams like Cal, Iowa Hawkeyes and Syracuse Orange were unable to take advantage of opportunities to pick up the wins they needed to make the field and now find themselves headlining the NIT. GRADE: A. For the most part, the selection committee stayed true to its principles when it came to seeding the bracket.  There were some difficult decisions throughout the bracket, starting at the top. Sports Line. Latest odds. North Carolina Tar Heels received a No. 1 seed, and not even the fourth of the top seeds, despite a semifinal loss in the ACC tournament to Duke Blue Devils , a relatively sub-par record against better opposition away from home and losing two of three to the Blue Devils. In a head-to-head comparison, Duke would appear to have a better overall resume than the Tar Heels, but selection committee chairman Mark Hollis said that when the committee went ...

... after the thrilling win. And one thing, Lakshmi, do not pick a 16 seed to beat a number one seed. That is the only guarantee because it's never, ever, ever happened. It might someday, but don't use the someday principle to knock out a first seed that might very well go all the way. And, lastly, arm yourself with a quarter because you will need to flip a coin on several picks. It's just that close or you don't know the teams, and that's perhaps the biggest rule, except that there's luck involved both in the games and in picking winners. SINGH: Although I've seen those coins with two heads or two tails, so I'm thinking get the coin that has a head and a tail. GOLDMAN: There you go. SINGH: OK. Who are the teams and players to watch on the men's side. GOLDMAN: Well, you know, I mentioned a couple of teams before, but I'll add Louisville, I'll ...

... Wright on goal for next 48 hours: We’re supposed to get hit with a big snow storm, so we’re getting out of here tomorrow at 3 p.m. We’re going to get our bodies and our minds fresh. You resist the temptation of planning too much when you don’t know who you’re playing. Hart on conference tournament: We got in the locker room, and we won a conference tournament. Half of the lack of celebration was exhaustion. We were dialed in and knew we could do better. When you have a coach who pushes you to be better, you want to be – especially because of all of his experience coaching. Josh Hart of defending title: We’re not thinking about last year. It’s about this year, completely different team. We have a different path. We don’t talk about being defending champions, we talk about being the best team we can be. Chris Collins: It was a pretty special day. We had a couple hundred people here in the arena, and people that have been watching Northwestern basketball for a lot of years. A lot of the joy and excitement. I got real reflective. It’s been a four-year journey for me, they believed in our vision and our dream of having a day like this. ESPN NBA analyst ...

Using The Last 10 Years To Predict Upsets

... They’re the best team in America in offensive effienciency per Ken __link__. My picks: No. 10 Oklahoma State over No. 7 Michigan. No. 10 Wichita State over No. 7 Dayton. No. 12 Middle Tennessee over No. 5 Minnesota. Pick one of the 13 seeds. On average there are seven double-digit upsets per year. So you still have one left to pick. And historically, it’s a 13 over a 4. The 13 seeds are 8-32. Generally, that’s one per tournament. The lowest rated Ken Pom 4 seed is Butler at No. 26. My pick: No. 13 Winthrop over No. 4 Butler. Distribution of your upsets by region. These picks also meet one of the other rules of picking upsets. How many in a region? Obviously, you could pick five double-digit seeds in one region. But that’s not how they’ve played out over the years. Eight regions of the 40 played since 2007 have had zero upsets. It’s hard to not pick one, but in all likelihood, there will be chalk in an entire bracket. Eleven regions have had one upset. Ten regions have had two upsets. So you can, on average, pick regions with zero, one and two upsets. Then, pick one with three or four. There have been five with three upsets and six with four upsets in the last 10 years. So ...

... under Roy Williams, headline the blue-blood portion of the bracket, potentially facing SEC champion, second-seeded Kentucky (29-5) or third-seeded UCLA (29-4) in the Regional final. The 11-time national champion Bruins, who won at Kentucky on Dec. 3, will need to make the most of this run with the highest-scoring offense in the country, and star freshman guard Lonzo Ball, who hopes to bring UCLA its first national championship in 22 years before becoming a top NBA draft pick. In the West Region, Gonzaga (32-1) was given the No. 1 seed, giving critics sufficient fuel if the Bulldogs again fail to make their first Final Four. Gonzaga, which has made 19 straight tournament appearances and lost in the second round as a top seed in 2013, could be a popular pick to fall again early, with No. 8 Northwestern — making its first-ever trip to the Big Dance — looming, followed by a potential meeting with either No. 5 Notre Dame, which has reached back-to-back Elite Eights, or No. 4 West Virginia. Hollis said that No. 2 Arizona (30-4), another Pac-12 power looking to end its 16-year Final Four drought, “moved up considerably” in the ...
