U.s. Advances To 2017 World Baseball Classic Second Round
... Nolan Arenado homered and drove in three for the Americans. — MLB Network (@MLBNetwork) March 13, 2017. And now for some things to know about this one …. 1. The U. S. is moving on. Thanks to their heartbreaking loss to the Dominican Republic on Saturday, the U. S. entered Sunday’s game against Canada needing a win in order to advance while avoiding any tiebreaker scenarios. They did just that. As a result they’ll move on to the second round and be a part of Pool D at Petco Park in San Diego, which gets underway on Tuesday. The U. S.’s first game will be on Wednesday. Other Pool D combatants include the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. Venezuela is likely to be the fourth team, but we won’t know that until the conclusion of the late game on Sunday. The top two teams from Pool D will advance to the ...
Six Seeds The Ncaa Tournament Committee Got Wrong
... and Wichita State, and is on the same line as Michigan, it’s just frustrating. The Gamecocks lost 10 times and did not have a top-50 win away from home. If you left Syracuse out for being lackluster on the road, then the same logic should’ve applied for South Carolina’s seed. Also not optimal: South Carolina gets to stay in state and play its games in Greenville. Vanderbilt (9 seed): The Commodores set a record by becoming the first team with 15 losses to get into the field. I have zero issue with their inclusion. But a team with 15 losses should never be a single-digit seed. Cannot justify it. LOSSES HAVE TO MATTER. Maryland (6 seed): Feels like the committee could not come to terms with how to handle the Big Ten. Maryland’s not getting a lot of attention for where it is in the bracket, but a 6 is a stretch. Not appalling, but SMU, for instance, is empirically a better team yet on the same ...
Our Experts Fill Out March Madness Brackets
... fun? You seeing what I’m doing with Oklahoma State Cowboys and SMU Mustangs too? Probably regrettable, but oh well. Hey, as long as the tournament’s fun, that’s all that matters. Chip Patterson. ( Click here to enlarge the bracket ). After toppling North Carolina Tar Heels , I’m picking Kansas to finish off its championship run by upending a Duke Blue Devils team that’s playing its best basketball of the season right now. The Jayhawks’ early bounce from the Big 12 tournament leaves even more time for this group, currently in the middle of concerning investigations from a few off-court incidents, to get its business in order before the time and stress demands of the NCAA Tournament. If Josh Jackson’s suspension continues, they’ll be a Final Four team. If he’s on the court, they’re winning the whole dang thing. Frank Mason III can carry this team to the edge of greatness but its the overwhelming impact of Jackson’s athleticism and versatility that can get them past a Louisville Cardinals , UNC, Kentucky Wildcats , UCLA Bruins or Duke. Breaking Down Gonzaga, No. 1 Seed In West
... who transferred in. Without Karnowski, Gonzaga doesn’t sniff a 1 seed this year. One guy soaring: Williams-Goss could be named a First Team All-America. The former Washington player has adapted beautifully in Spokane. His averages: 16.9 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 4.8 apg, 1.8 spg. He’s also an incredible foul shooter, hitting 91 percent of his attempts. Given that the Zags are a 1 seed, Williams-Goss might be the most underrated player in America. If he was putting up the number he is on any of the other teams who are 1 s, he’d be the frontrunner for National Player of the Year. Notable stat: 23.4. That’s Gonzaga’s average margin of victory this year. That’s nearly four points higher than the No. 2 team, Wichita State. Last year’s highest team in margin of victory was Stephen F. Austin — at 16.9. ...
Adam Hadwin Wins First Pga Tour Tournament At Valspar Championship
... the final 18 holes. With the show Hadwin and Cantlay put on Sunday, that was an impossible ask for Stenson to make up the ground. Still, Stenson had a terrific week. He shared a sweet hug with his daughter, gave Justin Rose a hard time and tried to scare his golf ball into the hole at one point. Grade: A. Henrik Stenson talking about his two-man team with Justin Rose at the Zurich Classic was great. __link__/RPQY 6 v 6 P 1 h. — Kyle Porter (@Kyle Porter CBS) March 12, 2017. Justin Thomas (MC): Thomas didn’t crack par and couldn’t make it to the weekend. Thomas (and other young players like him) will be an intriguing case study in the area of missed cuts. They were not built to make cuts. They (correctly) believe that anything that is not a win is a loss. You want the highest highs and if that means lower lows than players of ...

Agent For Patriots' Star Cornerback Is Trying To Get His Client Out Of New England
... out of New England. There's a new twist in the situation involving Malcolm Butler. • 2 min read. Thing might have just gotten slightly more awkward between the Patriots and Malcolm Butler. CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora has reported that Butler’s agent, Derek Simpson, is now contacting other teams and asking them to sign his client. The catch here is that Butler is a restricted free agent who was given a first-round tender, which means that if he’s signed by another team, that team would have to give a first-round pick to the Patriots. La Canfora has reported that the Patriots would actually be OK if Butler were to sign with someone else because that would give New England a first-round pick in this year’s draft. Currently, the Patriots don’t have a first-round pick because they traded it away in the deal for Saints receiver Brandin Cooks. Butler is having his agent look around because the corner doesn’t feel like he’s going to be paid what he’s worth in New England. According to La Canfora, the 27-year-old is looking for “Stephon Gilmore” money, which ...
Selection Sunday Upsets Could Result In Late Shake-ups To Field
... have contingencies in place for any of those situations if they feel a result merits a change. You may recall that last year, Kentucky coach John Calipari was very upset after the Wildcats beat Texas A&M to win the SEC title and saw that his team was still seeded below the Aggies. He accused the committee of not taking that game into account, but in fact, the committee felt his team should be seeded behind Texas A&M even if the Wildcats won. Reasonable people can disagree with that decision, but it wasn’t made out of bracketing expediency. It would not have been difficult to have another bracket in place. It was based on how the committee felt about those teams. I think the Pac-12 will be disappointed in the low number of its teams in the field and the seeding. While there are three very good teams at the top, ...
World Baseball Classic Scores, Results
... to 0-2. Venezuela 11, Italy 10 (10 innings). This was one crazy game. Italy pounced on Martin Perez , racing out to a 5-0 lead through four innings. Yet Venezuela struck back, plating eight runs over the ensuing three innings. By the time the ninth rolled around, both squads were tied at eight. Salvador Perez put Venezuela back up with a two-run home-run. But a blown save by Francisco Rodriguez was capped by an RBI single on Gavin Cecchini’s part. Unfortunately, Cecchini’s single saw Drew Butera thrown out at home plate - noteworthy since Butera collided with Perez, his Kansas City Royals teammate, who then left the game with a knee injury. ( You can read more about Perez here.) Rodriguez, by the way, also left the game injured. Extra innings belonged to Venezuela, as they went ahead again ...
Using The Last 10 Years To Predict Upsets
... of 12 in the last 10 years. I’d combine it with another stat. The 10 seeds are 15-25 in that same time period. So I’d take three out of the eight 10 or 12 seeds to advance. A good way to pick which teams is based on their offensive success. Can the team get hot for a game to pull off an upset? This points to No. 10 Oklahoma State. They’re the best team in America in offensive effienciency per Ken __link__. My picks: No. 10 Oklahoma State over No. 7 Michigan. No. 10 Wichita State over No. 7 Dayton. No. 12 Middle Tennessee over No. 5 Minnesota. Pick one of the 13 seeds. On average there are seven double-digit upsets per year. So you still have one left to pick. And historically, it’s a 13 over a 4. The 13 seeds are 8-32. Generally, that’s one per tournament. The lowest rated Ken Pom 4 seed is Butler at No. 26. My pick: No. 13 Winthrop over No. 4 Butler. Distribution of your upsets by region. These picks also meet one of the other rules of picking upsets. How many in a region? Obviously, you could ...
Syracuse A 1-seed, Plus Rule Changes To Know
... impact of its current game format with two 20-minute halves. These rules break down the accumulation of team fouls into 10-minute segments, providing a snapshot of what college basketball with four quarters might look like. The biggest change to take effect during the NIT is resetting team fouls to zero at the end of 10-minute segments during each half, the NCAA said in a statement announcing several experimental rule changes. “The committee believes resetting the team fouls to zero at the 9:59 mark of each half may have the same effect as resetting the team fouls to zero at the end of each quarter, while at the same time allowing for men’s college basketball to retain the unique format of two 20-minute halves,” the NCAA statement said. In these 31 NIT games, after a team commits its fifth personal or technical foul in each 10-minute segment (and all fouls after that), the other team will shoot two free throws - essentially dividing the game into four quarters when it comes to how team fouls ...
