The arts are what prompted Jonique Johnson, 35, to make Plessy her first choice on the kindergarten application for her 4-year-old son, ...

Our 3 Favorite Menswear Shops In New Orleans

... of Mardis Gras and NBA All-Star Weekend this year only amplified the situation, flooding the streets of New Orleans with adults chugging 32 oz daiquiris, insanely talented jazz musicians putting on impromptu concerts, parades (one featured only dogs in costume), and a whole lot of celebrities. But even though it was nearly impossible to get around, we managed to hunt down some damn good menswear including sneakers, indy streetwear, and even some modern prep classics. Even if day-drinking isn't your thing, these three stores make a trip to NOLA worth it. Sneaker Politics. Believe it or not, one of America's coolest sneaker stores was born and raised in Louisiana—though not in New Orleans, at least not until now. Derek Curry opened Sneaker Politics in Lafayette, Louisiana—a city 135 miles west of New Orleans—back in 2006. Think of Sneaker Politics like the Concepts of the South—a well-oiled independent shop that releases all the hyped-up kicks you could ever want in addition to its own regular collaborations. (Curry even looks a bit like he could be a brother to Concepts' Deon Point, and the pair happen to be best ...

Cousins Rips Kings, Calls Trade To New Orleans 'coward Move

... rumors before the start of the All-Star Game that he might be headed to New Orleans. Then as he was about to meet with the media after the contest, Kings media relations director Chris Clark whispered in his ear that "there is serious talk about you possibly being moved.". Cousins learned about the deal being official later that night but he didn't hear the news from Ranadive or Divac. He said it should've been handled differently. "Like a man. Like a professional. The more those guys talk, the more things come out," Cousins said. "It's just crazy. This ain't something that happened in a few days. It has been discussed with more than one team. I just don't understand.". In January, the rumors were that the Kings planned to offer Cousins a five-year, $207 million contract extension. Before February ended, his Sacramento tenure was over. Cousins had 27 points and 14 rebounds in his first game with New Orleans but the Pelicans were run out of the building by the Houston Rockets. His new All-Star sidekick, Anthony Davis, tallied 29 points. "For ...

Trial For New Orleans Man Accused Of Killing, Burning Single Mother Moved To April

... Nichols, who left behind a 9-year-old son, died of multiple gunshot wounds, the Orleans Parish Coroner's office determined. Samson was arrested one month later, following an investigation led by New Orleans police homicide detective Rob Barrere that was featured on the A&E docudrama series "The First 48.". In Samson's arrest documents, Barrere said he was able to place the part-time barber and exotic dancer at the murder scene using both cellphone data and DNA results from a telltale pair of basketball shorts found inside the charred car, and worn by Samson in a photo found on his Instagram account. The documents also revealed Nichols placed a frantic call to 911 early in the morning she was found dead, telling the emergency operator that a man was outside her car, holding her car keys and pointing a gun at her. Additional video evidence showed Nichols and Samson leaving a Downman Road nightclub together about three hours before her death. Firefighters found Nichols' remains while extinguishing a vehicle fire at 7:17 a.m. near the intersection of ...
