In the first full year after acquiring Burger King (announced 9/2/10), 3 G Capital lowered G&A by 38%. The reductions were driven by a zero-based budgeting, or ZBB (starting each budget year with a blank slate) and refranchising company units (not a large opportunity at PLKI with 55 company store of 2,688). For perspective, we expect PLKI’s G&A to be roughly equal to its EBITDA in ’18 ($106.7 M vs. $103.7 M) such that a given % drop in G&A would translate into a similar increase in EBITDA. PLKI has long seen the opportunity to be the “challenger brand” for chicken QSR internationally, as there are in the hamburger and pizza and segments. By refining its marketing message, investing in TV advertising and signing new franchisee agreements, PLKI has been setting the stage for strong growth. PLKI’s unit growth has accelerated ...
