John Wick: Chapter 2

... out. (Reminder: Release and premiere dates subject to change.). Director : Chad Stahelski. Cast : Keanu Reeves , Ian Mc Shane, Laurence Fishburne, Ruby Rose. No one expected much from the first “John Wick.” Looking at the cast list and synopsis, it seemed as if it could’ve been the kind of action-thriller that airs at 11 Sunday night on some basic-cable network: Keanu Reeves plays the shadowy title figure, who kicks off a revenge spree after Russian thugs kill his dog. And, yes, that is pretty much what “John Wick” is. It is also the kind of grindhouse, exploitation fun that Hollywood doesn’t make any more, executed with style and verve by directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch — themselves stuntmen, fight choreographers and second-unit directors making the leap to the big chair. “John Wick” made $86 million worldwide off an estimated $20-million budget. With that kind of math, you get a sequel. This time around, it doesn’t seem that a puppy needs to die in order to prompt Wick — again played by Reeves ...

... the broken window. They aren’t looking into a broken mirror at themselves. Every section is a film still: the two at top showing happy times and the ones at bottom showing fear. I wonder what it would look like if the whole were just Daniel Kaluuya’s scared face staring at us, frozen in the glass with a silent scream. I can’t even say the tease is better since it holds no impact. The darkness makes it hard to see anything, the text at top and bottom is way too big not to conflict with the title (considering half is outlined rather than bolded), and there’s nothing to focus on. This print campaign does the film no favors in cajoling passersby. As far as Rings (February 3), BLT embraces the overused horror sheet with monochrome character underneath top to bottom text. Think the Carrie remake. Think The Evil Dead remake. Snore. I will give the copywriter some credit, though, because the tagline is ballsy. “First you watch it. Then you die.” On one level it’s speaking about the video of Samara that permeates this franchise. On another it’s telling you that you’ll die after ...

Since 'loot' In The '60s To 'john Wick' Today, Ian Mcshane Still Loves What He Does

... Your character of Winston is so much fun because he is so mysterious, running the Continental Hotel that caters to assassins with the caveat that they don’t bring their business to the facility.  And he almost has a paternal relationship with John Wick. He’s got a soft spot for John. The director Chad is real smart. Chad can make a movie. All the action I thought was beautiful. I think the writer knows what he’s doing. Keanu, he’s one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. He’s regular, good, conscientious, terrific.  It was like working on the first one, which was a pleasure, except they had more money on this one. How were you cast in “Deadwood”. “Sexy Beast” had been around. It was hugely popular. Two people from HBO came to England and said, will you come across and do this? I said, no, I don't want to do an American series. I said I really didn’t. Well they just said, it’s HBO and it’s David Milch and it’s Walter Hill. So I came out and the rest is that. I was re-watching a scene from “Deadwood” on the Internet and you just embodied the role of Al Swearengen. That was an extraordinary series. It was fantastic. It was all meticulously scripted. David Milch ...

... just basic stuff,' when describing the skills he had to learn. Some candid shots of him practicing tactical maneuvers at a firing range follows, as does a montage of practicing different martial arts. Chad then reveals that the particular mix of fighting styles amounts to a new type called 'gun fu,' which is of course a portmanteau of 'gun' and 'kung fu.'. Confident: 'Whatever it is, he embraces it wholeheartedly,' gushes Chad about his star, 'he just goes full throttle the whole way'. Fire! Some candid shots of him practicing tactical maneuvers at a firing range follows, as does a montage of practicing different martial arts. Right turn! He also practiced precision driving skills. He then confirms that realism was very important to the production: 'we wanted the audience to watch our lead cast, who actually went through the training to do the action itself.'. Later, rapper Common also chimes in, as he plays what looks to be a rival in the upcoming sequel. 'The stunt team is built on mastery,' he says, before clarifying 'they want A plus level work,' from the ...

Origins’ Will Do For Bows And Arrows What ‘john Wick’ Did For Guns

... posted to producer Basil Iwanyk when Collider’s own Steve Weintraub recently caught up with him in anticipation of the release of John Wick: Chapter 2. The first answer is, obviously, the cast. Kingsman breakout Taron Egerton leads the film as a youthful Robin Hood, with Ben Mendelsohn playing the Sheriff of Nottingham, Eve Hewson as Maid Marian, and Jamie Foxx inhabiting the role of Little John. But beyond that, what makes Robin Hood: Origins worthwhile. “Exempting the killer cast, I feel that it captures the adventure and the fun and the spirit of Robin Hood, but because it’s the origin story—it’s a kid going off to war thinking he’s going on a great Crusade, and realizing it’s all bullshit and coming back with some PTSD and realizing he’s been lied to, and coming back to kind of a fractured society that doesn’t really accept him and realizing, ‘Okay the super rich are getting richer, and the poor are ...

... character jumped on board, as Reeves invited Fishburne to join the cast as The Bowery King. Stahelski said he had to pinch himself and described the experience of working with both actors as “fantastic.". As for the stunts, there is even more blood, guns and knives in the second film. Stahelski said he gets his inspiration from traveling, reading books and martial artists from all over the world when designing new sequences. The cast wanted to make the scenes look as real as possible, and even though the film had a stunt team, the actors enjoyed training and getting to do some of their own stunts. “Chad designed some great action sequences, and Keanu just killed it. He lays himself out there and does basically everything himself,” said producer Jeff Waxman. “One thing I was determined to do was be in the film doing the action," said Common. "I take pride in not having stuntmen do my work. We had a great stunt team, but our director wanted us to be the ones fighting, rolling ...

... out that show business did not come as easily to him as those of us salivating over the forthcoming John Wick: Chapter 2 might think. On Wednesday's Tonight Show, Reeves got to reminiscing about his first gig, a stint as a correspondent on Going Great, a mid-1980 s CBC kids' news-magazine show in which a gawky Reeves interviewed precocious youngsters about their unusual hobbies. Although Reeves's tenure on the show wasn't long—he glumly admitted that he had been fired after his first season, and that the show lasted just one more after that—the magic of the Internet means that even today we can all enjoy this early-period Reeves art. There's no reason for host Jimmy Fallon to bring up this bit of hilarious trivia unless he could produce the receipts, of course, and sure enough, Reeves's face upon hearing that a giddy ...

... about the screening soon after. For fans of the first John Wick that are wondering if the sequel is any good…I’m happy to report the sequel is fantastic. It opens with an insane action set piece and it pretty much never stops. I don’t know how any person that paid for a full-price ticket could walk out and say they didn’t get their money’s worth. I can’t wait to see it again. For those unfamiliar with the sequel, Keanu Reeves will face-off against a whole new host of friends, villains, and colleagues, played by the likes of Common, Ruby Rose, and Riccardo Scamarcio, amongst others. The movie also sees the return of Ian Mc Shane, John Leguizamo, Bridget Moynihan, and Lance Reddick. Finally, I’ve been to a lot of movies theaters around the world and I can honestly say Arc Light Cinemas is easily one of the best theater chains ...
