Future Black History Month
... That sent your pops to prison when he needed education. Sometimes I think that segregation would've done us better. Although I know that means that I would never. Be brought into this world 'cause my daddy was so thrilled. When he found him a white girl to take back to Jonesboro". We're still watching for Eyez to become Cole's second straight platinum album with no features; for now, it boasts the title of third-highest album sales week in 2016 following Drake 's Views and Beyoncé 's Lemonade. C. The foundation’s goal for the urban youth is to have a dream, believe in their dream, and achieve their dream.". Cole's advocacy for fresh perspectives in hip-hop was clear from the jump. Does J. Cole Need A Cosigned Act On His Next Album
... all of this information, I began to think to myself: is a project so popular with no features really something to celebrate as it relates to the health and future of hip-hop culture. Now, to be fair, this is not an attack on Cole (he’s a grown man who’s free to do what he feels in his own creative space) as much as it is a treatise that explores the power and influence of the “cosign.” For the sake of argument, I will define the cosign as “one well-known artist endorsing another lesser known artist, often from their own team, in an effort to use their platform to introduce the new artist to a larger, captive audience.” In a sense, it says, “Yo, I think they are dope. You guys should check them out.”. The cosign can occur in a couple of ways: either the more prominent artist mentions the rising star in an article or interview OR the artist features the new artist on their own project. I often have had ...

For Your Eyes Only' By J. Cole
... The song has good flow and the content and perspective included in the track were interesting to consider. Everything else, not so much. ‘Immortal,’ ‘Neighbors’ and ‘4 your Eyez Only’ are like the doable tracks, but ‘She’s Mine,’ atrocious.”. Does this album being about his slain friend’s daughter do anything to save it. “No sir. I think the concept was weak in my opinion. I’ve listened to other concept albums, like Kendrick’s To Pimp a Butterfly, and I feel that was a lot more skillfully done. I thought this was a weak attempt at a concept album honestly. I understand he’s at a different phase in his life and maybe because of that he’s not relating to me anymore, but I’m starting to believe he won’t ever top his old music.”. How do you feel this matches up to the other names in J. Cole’s discography. “I think this was easily the worst album of his career. And second to that will probably be Sideline Story. I think easily the most impressive J. Cole soundtracks are of course Friday Night Lights, Born Sinner and the Truly Yours series. And the more lackluster projects ...
J. Cole Composes A Deep Narrative On ‘4 Your Eyez Only
... the tone for his remaining songs. “Immortal,” which was my favorite song off the album, starts off with a thrumming bass that Cole skillfully raps over. His rap illustrates most people’s perception of “the hood” and other parts of growing up in poverty. “Immortal” is followed by “Déjà vu,” which has an excellent beat and catchy hook. He returns to the theme of new love in songs like “She’s Mine Part I” and “Foldin’ Clothes.”. The album continues on with tracks like “Ville Mentality,” “Change” and “Neighbors,” which explain the struggles of growing up in the ghetto and the temptation to fall into a life of crime. Cole’s story starts to expand in the ninth track of the album, “She’s Mine Part II.” In “She’s Mine Part II,” I figured out that the song about meeting a woman, and the “Part II” is about raising one. Once I listened to “Part II,” I realized that this album is more than just catchy tunes and hooks — it is one ...
