Will Raptors’ Kyle Lowry Win 2017 Jbl 3-point Contest
... by having De Mar De Rozan and Kyle Lowry participating in the festivities. The second event of All-Star Saturday night is the JBL 3-point contest. The participants are Nick Young, Wesley Matthews, Kemba Walker, C. J. Mc Collum, Kyrie Irving, Eric Gordon, Klay Thompson, and our very own Kyle Lowry. Klay Thompson is trying to repeat after putting on a show last year shooting 27/34 in the contest, while Kyrie Irving won the 2013 3-point contest. Kyle will have his hands full on Saturday night going up against some of the best in the business. I think Lowry will shine as he has proven time and time again why he should be recognized as an elite NBA sharpshooter. Lowry is third in the league with 3 pointers made with 185 only behind James Harden and Stephen Curry. Our man is shooting 41.7 per cent from deep. Lowry’s stats speak for themselves and Raptors fans hope they his prowness will show on Saturday night. Simulation Predictions For The 2017 Nba 3-point Contest
... the point of a model is when you can just rank shooters by their percentages, it’s to figure out the spread of the odds. And from what I’ve learned in past contests, there should be no heavy favorites and the field is usually a safe pick. Finally, let’s get to the results for this year’s contest. You can see the contestants here and the odds various markets have for them. Klay Thompson is the obvious favorite and, lo and behold, he’s the favorite through the simulation too. But he’s not the runaway leader; no one should be. He’s only three times as likely as, say, Nick Young, whose win would be a metaphor for the Los Angeles Lakers clinging to superficial fixes and vanity — and we’d probably get a great celebration too. Here are the odds for 2017 3-Point Contest. The interesting thing about a simulation is that you can analyze outliers ...
Robinson Wins Dunk Contest, Caps Saturday Events
... All-Star slam dunk champion. Robinson beat Derrick Jones Jr. of the Phoenix Suns in the final round. Robinson clinched the win with a perfect 50 on the final dunk of the night — going over three people for a reverse dunk and nearly touching his head on the rim in the process. Robinson and Jones embraced when it was over, and Robinson went over to shake hands with judges. "This is just the beginning for me," Robinson said. Robinson started with a dunk where he leaped over Indiana teammate Paul George, grabbing the ball from the All-Star before his slam that merited 44 points. Jones failed to go over three people — or rather, one man, one Suns dancer and Suns' mascot The Gorilla — and get a dunk down in his first attempt of the finals, yet got 37 points. His second attempt, an off-the-bounce, between-the-legs slam, was a perfect 50. De Andre Jordan of the Los Angeles Clippers and Aaron Gordon of the Orlando Magic were eliminated in the first round. Gordon finished second to Minnesota's Zach La Vine in last year's contest. 9:05 p.m. The dunk contest is underway, and the props are ...
Lakers’ Nick Young Cites Nerves After Early Exit In 3-point Contest
... “had a blast” during All-Star weekend with his family. He also kept his sense of humor after tying for fourth place with Golden State’s Klay Thompson and finishing behind Houston’s Eric Gordon, Cleveland’s Kyrie Irving, Charlotte’s Kemba Walker. Young argued he and Thompson are on equal footing as outside shooters since they tied. Young jokingly said he “should’ve never listened” to teammate Jordan Clarkson for putting the money-ball rack at the top of the key. He also chimed in on Irving’s contention that the Earth is flat, saying, “I think the world could be — it just never ends.”. Young also said he had shoot poorly out of an apparent way to conserve energy in subsequent rounds. “They tricked me and said the first four advanced. I didn’t know it was top three,” Young said. “So I thought I was good.”. Young also turned serious on what he hopes the Lakers (19-39) accomplish ...
The Lakers' History In The Three-point Contest
... percentage (38.5). But his biggest moment from beyond the arc came during the NBA Finals against Larry Bird, who beat Schrempf in the Three-Point championship round. The Lakers ended up capturing the championship that year by beating Bird’s Celtics in six games. Cooper was huge in Game 2 — splashing six 3-pointers, which remains a since-tied franchise Finals record. Byron Scott (1987, 1988). Scott’s introduction to the Three-Point Contest went about as poorly as it could’ve, as he finished last with only nine points in 1987. Nonetheless, the NBA invited him to perform the next year in Chicago, and the Inglewood product didn’t disappoint. In a polar-opposite performance, Scott caught fire immediately, knocking down his first seven shots as well as his last four. By the time the buzzer sounded, he had won the first round with 19 points. However, in the semifinals, his shooting tailed off at the very end, ...
Klay Thompson Eliminated In First Round Of 3-point Contest
... he had known he needed a 19 to avoid elimination. Eager to recapture last year’s brilliance, when he netted a record-tying 27 points in the final round to best Curry for his first three-point-contest title, Thompson had again made the “money ball” rack his last rack. By the time he got there, the three-time All-Star was rushing his shot. It was a costly mistake for a player known for his consistent shooting form. After swishing his first shot of that final rack, Thompson clanged three in a row. It was enough to ensure that, even after making his last shot, the score on the video board above — 18 — wasn’t enough for him to defend his three-point crown. “It felt good,” said Thompson, the only Golden State player to participate in a skills competition Saturday. “They just didn’t go in tonight. That happens.”. A soft-spoken catch-and-shoot maestro, Thompson seldom gets the buzz of Curry, Kevin Durant and Draymond Green. Thompson is content working off screens and hitting open jumpers. Still, he relishes the big moment. This is a player who hit a playoff-record 11 three-pointers in Game 6 of the 2016 Western Conference Finals. ...
Participants, Prediction & Odds
... from behind the arc. He will be challenged by Portland Trail Blazers sharpshooter C. J. Mc Collum. He is averaging 2.5 3-pointers made per game and is shooting close to Thompson’s percentage at.412 percent this season. Kyrie Irving and Kyle Lowry are two of the biggest stars in the contest. Irving averages 2.4 made 3-pointers a game and shoots.395 percent from the 3-point line. Lowry makes 3.3 per game and is shooting.419 percent from behind the arc. Here’s a look at the Vegas odds for the 3-point contest courtesy of Odds Shark. The players are listed in order from greatest to least odds to win. Klay Thompson (Golden State Warriors) +175. C. J. Can Anyone Knock Off Klay Thompson In The 3-point Shootout
... since Jason Kapono (remember him?) in 2007 and 2008. Thompson shoots just under eight threes per game while making about 42 percent of them, making him a pretty good bet to win again. Lowry is another marksman to keep an eye on. He was eliminated in the first round during his Three-Point Contest debut in Toronto, but is shooting even better from three-point range this season (nearly 42 percent) than he did last year (39 percent) while hoisting eight attempts per game. He’s a real threat to knock off Thompson and bring the three-point title to Toronto. It may come as a surprise to some that Young boasts one of the best three-point percentages of any contestant this year. A notoriously unpredictable player, Swaggy P is shooting over 41 percent on seven three-point attempts per game this season. Known for making highly contested threes, it’ll be interesting to see how Young fares with a wide-open basket. Walker’s appearance in this ...
