The Space Between Us' Star Britt Robertson Goes From Sci-fi To Sitcom In Netflix's 'girlboss
... someone and then you act. Your characters' energies are very different, and it seems like, as actors, you kind of come at things in a different way, too. Did you find that. Yes! Asa and I are truly opposites. We've done interviews before, like the "would you rather?" interviews, and almost every time we have the opposite answers, to everything. But there's something really awesome about that, like complimenting each other in that way. Yeah, it's cool to see the opposite sides of things. Are you still absorbing stuff from the more mature actors, like somebody as legendary as Gary Oldman ? Are you still watching them with one eye and asking, "What can I learn from this guy?". I love Gary Oldman. I love watching him. He's just the most delightful. Down to just the science of being an actor and taking control over a set. He would never take control over the set, but if he needed something and he realized that things were falling apart, or we were losing time - you get to these points where it can be really challenging; you've got like 150 people all trying to do the same thing - the way he would go about ...

The Space Between Us' Tells A Stellar Love Story Featurette
... Gardner and other people who care for him. "What I loved about the story is it's very universal to me," director Peter Chelsom said in a new featurette about the movie. "Is it about Mars. Is it about America? No. They're just devices to tell that love story.". "Gardner is searching for connection," added producer Richard Barton Lewis. "He's trying to understand who he is and find out what it means to be human.". In the story, which begins in the near future (judging from the date on the mother's tombstone on Mars), the astronauts use a modified space shuttle to get to the Red Planet. "Tell me where you're really from," Tulsa says to Gardner online, from her room on Earth. "Mars. I was born here," Gardner responds at his Red Planet bunk. "Sometimes I feel I'm from a different planet, too," Tulsa says. In the same video, Butterfield and his fellow actors noted the culture shock that Gardner feels when talking to Earthlings such as Tulsa, but added that Gardner's focus is resolute. The key question: why did Leon Labuschagne provoke a confrontation with seven soccer players in a minivan and then subsequently execute them. The performances are solid, including Coogan and especially Garion Dowds as the laconic and mournful defendant. Director Oliver Schmitz gives the film a measured pace, stoking tension as the courtroom drama unfolds. ... story, but don't expect it to add much to the horror genre. The verdict: Skip it. The original had the power of Naomi Watts; this one screams cash grab. "The Comedian" — Robert De Niro, Leslie Mann, Edie Falco, directed by Taylor Hackford. Robert De Niro plays Jackie, a famous but dwindling stand-up comic who lands in community service after reacting unkindly to a bullying heckler. There, he meets a kindred spirit (Leslie Mann), and new adventures ensue. De Niro's name once was synonymous with quality, but whether it's a lack of meaningful roles for his age group or a less discerning eye on his part, he's embarked on a series of forgettable films in recent years, so I'm weary. ... set in 2034, which might allow enough time for passé teen lingo to become charmingly retro; what the film doesn’t do with its jump in time is acknowledge that clothes or cars or phones or tablets might evolve post-2015. All the laptops are made of Lucite, but beyond that, there’s no effort to reflect that this is taking place in the future. It’s a tiny point, but it’s one of many ways in which “The Space Between Us” doesn’t think through its own concept. The actors here far outshine the material. Robertson, in particular, is an appealing performer who needs a career intervention to get her out of the “A Dog’s Purpose”/”The Last Ride” /”Mother’s Day” doldrums. Unfortunately, Loeb and director Peter Chelsom (“Hector and the Search for Happiness”) provide a cavalcade of silly story elements in lieu of emotional investment. The result is a film that appeals neither to the space between your ears nor the space between your ribs.
