... five-man units, like the Warriors’ Death Lineup of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala and Harrison Barnes, or the Megadeath Lineup, which swaps out Barnes for Kevin Durant. But the ramifications of more minor adjustments can be profound: In last season’s Finals , Le Bron James, Kyrie Irving, Richard Jefferson, J. R. Smith and Tristan Thompson outscored opponents by 26.9 points per 100 possessions in 66 minutes; but when they swapped out Thompson for Iman Shumpert for 14 minutes, the Cavs were outscored by 16 points, or 56.6 points per 100 possessions. So lineups matter. And during the regular season, the Cavs’ and Warriors’ Finals lineups don’t play each other very much. The Cavs’ five most-favored lineups against the Warriors during the regular season have played a combined two minutes against them in the Finals. Two minutes! Obviously, injuries have been a factor: Kevin Love missed all ...

... 4 from three, 2 for 2 from the line) with two rebounds, an assist and five fouls. Randle took his first shot just 23 seconds after checking in for Rodriguez and made his first NBA bucket, a three. “He did a great job,” Rodriguez said. “He stepped up in the game, he made some shots, he got the rhythm of the team going. For us, it’s amazing … he’s just here for a few days and he’s talented and he showed [Monday].”. Now Randle could be the latest point guard to maximize an opportunity created by injury. The Sixers have been impressed by what Stanford’s all-time leading scorer can do on both sides of the court. “When you start looking at what we have access to, the physical measurements, his wingspan is elite,” Brett Brown said. “You sit him in a stance and he spreads out, he uncoils. Tonight Is Closest Thing To An Nba Iowa-fest

... Iowans, with pro rookies Marcus Paige (Salt Lake City Stars), Jarrod Uthoff (Raptors 905) and Wes Washpun (Iowa Energy). All are from the Cedar Rapids-Marion-Marengo triangle. Unless I’m missing something (and I missed Korver on first glance), Korver is the only Iowan to play in an NBA All-Star Game. And riddle me this: Is Bob Hansen the only native Iowan to be on an NBA champion? His last game was the final game of the 1992 NBA Finals with the Chicago Bulls. Gadzooks, this season is the 25 th anniversary of that title. (The answer to my question is NO. Bullard played for the Houston Rockets’ 1994 championship team.). Here’s a column I wrote about Hansen five years ago when it was merely the 20 th anniversary. Today’s Pomeroy College Basketball Rankings ( __link__ ) have Iowa 13 th in the Big ...

Hassan Whiteside Continues To Say He's Being Overlooked In Nba All-star Voting

... as the Brooklyn Nets. Miami is 13 th in defensive rating, after all, and Whiteside is one of the league's most prolific shot-blockers. That argument falls apart, though, when you look at his on/off numbers - the Heat have been significantly better on defense when Whiteside has been on the bench. This is because, despite him being an intimidating presence around the rim, he's not effective guarding the perimeter and can be goaded into trying to block shots at the expense of solid team defense. If there wasn't much frontcourt talent in the East, perhaps you could look past those numbers and put Whiteside in based on his offense and his rebounding. There is not, however, a shortage of players competing for these All-Star spots. Without even thinking, I'd put Le Bron James , Giannis Antetokounmpo , Jimmy Butler , Paul George , Paul Millsap and Kevin Love ahead of Whiteside. There are good arguments for Al Horford , Joel Embiid and Kristaps Porzingis , too. Whiteside has the talent to be an All-Star, but it won't be some kind of mistake if he's left off this ...

Draymond, Durant Have Turned The Warriors Into The Nba's Best Defensive Team

... was about as impressive as the fact that they held the Cavs to 35-percent shooting. Their 37 assists were as important as the Cavs only having 11 of them. And by limiting the Cavs to 84.4 points per 100 possessions, the Warriors now have the best defensive rating in the NBA. On the season, Golden State is allowing opponents to score just 101.2 points per 100 possessions. The Utah Jazz have the same mark, but are presumably percentage points behind the Warriors, as they are ranked second on NBA.com. For the team that took a ton of criticism for their early-season defense after losing their two main rim protectors, Andrew Bogut and Festus Ezeli , this is rather impressive. Much of the credit for Golden State's stingy defense should go to Draymond Green and Kevin Durant. Not only are they protecting the rim better than most traditional centers do, they are guarding multiple positions, making ...

Nba Teams Most Likely To Hold Fire Sale Ahead Of 2017 Trade Deadline

... Fromal , National NBA Featured Columnist. Jan 17, 2017. Use your ← → (arrow) keys to browse the slideshow. Issac Baldizon/Getty Images. Take a good look at current NBA rosters. By the time the Feb. 23 trade deadline has come and gone, many of them could look significantly different. We're not referring to the contenders that will pick up a single piece to strengthen their rotations, as the Cleveland Cavaliers did with Kyle Korver. Nor are we concerned with the midlevel teams that will buy at the deadline to aid their playoff chances. Here, we're interested in the franchises most likely to engage in all-out selling sprees. Not all of these squads will strip their rosters bare, trading all quality assets devoid of long-term upside to contending organizations. But any of the league's 30 teams that should travel down that path are featured here, alphabetically. Knicks SF Carmelo Anthony. Brooklyn Nets. Other than Brook Lopez , who on this team could even fetch a mediocre return? In order for a fire sale to occur, an organization must possess multiple ...

How Many Of The Nba's 7-footers And Other Bigs Developed Their Pretty Good 3-point Shots

... center Amanda Zahui B, who is 6-foot-5, said she began shooting the shot in college but hasn’t put up many in the WNBA — yet. This season, her coach in Russia, where she plays during the WNBA offseason, told her she needed to start shooting more long-distance shots, so now she spends 30 minutes after practice working on it. “I’m working my way around the 3-second area and then working my way further out to the free throw line extended and then where I’m usually taking my 3-point shot, that’s where I’m practicing them,” she said. “So on the wings or on the top of the key. Just taking a couple of shots, just so I get comfortable with it.”. The look on the defender’s face when they realized they can’t give an unlikely looking 3-point shooter space, she said, is worth the extra time in the gym. “The more shots you make, everybody gets hyped around you because you’re — quote, unquote — not supposed to shoot because you’re a big player,” she said. “It’s ...
