Why Bonnaroo Might Not Seem Very Hippie-friendly This Year
... Dead and its successors. "There's no doubt about that.". Adds a high-ranking concert-business source: "This might have been the year where there wasn't the perfect [headliner] that sort of fit that hippie mold.". Bonnaroo drew some 45,000 fans last June, a 46 percent drop from its peak in 2011, and organizers were undoubtedly under pressure to fix the problem quickly. (Live Nation, the world's biggest promoter, bought a controlling interest in the festival in 2015 , then purchased one of its founding promoters, AC Entertainment of Knoxville, Tennessee, late last year.) U 2 , which recently announced a stadium tour, had been informally discussing the possibility with Bonnaroo organizers for two or three years until the timing finally clicked in. Although festival headliners in recent years have been mainstream rock and pop stars such as Billy Joel , Kanye West and Paul Mc Cartney , Bonnaroo has always included a top jam-band attraction such as Dead and Company last year and My Morning Jacket in 2015. Bonnaroo's debut, in 2002, starred Widespread Panic , Phish 's Trey Anastasio, String Cheese Incident, Govt Mule, Galactic and others ...

Breakdown: For what it may have lacked in terms of headliners, Bonnaroo 2012 did a great job capturing artists who were surging at the moment, including Kendrick Lamar, Foster the People, The Avett Brothers, Alabama Shakes and Bon Iver. (Photo: __link__). 13. 2004. Top acts: Bob Dylan, The Dead, Wilco, Dave Matthews, David Byrne, Primus. Breakdown: Year Three was a bit frontloaded, with Bob Dylan, Wilco and Dave Matthews all playing on the first day. Still, the lineup was very diverse in featuring everyone from Kings of Leon (back when they were more of an indie band), Damien Rice and Los Lobos to Primus, Yo La Tengo and Neko Case. (Photo: d Bpm). 14. 2016. Top acts: Pearl Jam, LCD Soundsystem, The Dead & Company, J. Cole, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, M 83, Death Cab For Cutie. Lorde’s Appearance At 2017 Bonnaroo Is The Latest Clue That She’s Releasing A New Album Before Summer
... get too excited. But these clues are becoming too much to ignore. Because check it out — wasn't the New Zealand-born wunderkind already signed up to perform at Coachella 2017 as well? And didn't I see her name on the poster for the 2017 Governor's Ball ? Lorde is wonderful and glorious and I've missed her so much, and I really don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth on this. But do you really think that three of the most-anticipated and star-studded music festivals, Bonnaroo, Coachella, and Governor's Ball, would all snag the singer-songwriter in the same year to do old material? I don't. There was word that ...
