Sf Giants Train For 4th World Series Win With Halo Sport Headphones

... outfielder Austin Slater trains with Halo Sport (Halo). What does it take to score four World Series championships in 10 years? The San Francisco Giants hope science is the answer. In partnership with Halo Neuroscience , the National League baseball team is among the first to implement neurotechnology into its training. The company’s first product, Halo Sport, resembles an ordinary pair of wireless over-ear headphones. But detachable foam nibs (which look like a torture device or high-tech head massager) tickle your brain in 20-minute “Neuropriming” sessions. The process, as described by Halo CTO Brett Wingeier, uses electrical stimulation during movement-based training to induce a temporary state of hyper-learning, or “hyperplasticity,” in the mind, refining its ability to adapt. Oh, and it plays music. During the Giants’ 2016 conditioning camp, coaches split top minor league prospects into two groups—one wearing Halo Sport during 20-minute warm-ups, and one without. After two weeks, the Halo group reported the greatest improvements in speed. “Overall, all players at camp showed general improvements in the testing parameters,” Geoff Head, Giants’ sports ...

Sf Giants Trying Halo Headphones To Get Back To World Series
Sf Giants Trying Halo Headphones To Get Back To World Series

... Day next week, the Major League Baseball club, which has won three World Series championships this decade alone, made its partnership with Halo public Wednesday. The entire organization - from its four minor league teams to the big leaguers - will be using the high-tech devices this season. Halo uses a technology known as t DCS - transcranial direct current stimulation - to shoot electrical currents through the brain. The headphones' foam spikes are designed to speed up the neurons to the brain's motor cortex, a practice called " neuropriming ," which the company says improves athletic performance. The San Francisco Giants' top outfield prospect Austin Slater uses Halo Sport headphones during a spring training workout. The team says it has seen player performance improve using the device. Justyn Warner/SF Giants. "We're trying to improve our team speed and explosiveness," Geoff Head, the Giants' sports scientist specialist, said during a phone interview from the team's spring training in Scottsdale, Arizona. "And we've already seen some improvement using the headphones.". Many athletes use technology and wearable devices in an effort to gain an ...

Giants’ Cain To Begin Season As No. 5 Starter
Giants’ Cain To Begin Season As No. 5 Starter

... Matt Cain landed squarely in the news Friday, even if he did not step atop the mound in Game 2 of the Bay Bridge Series against the A’s at AT&T Park. Manager Bruce Bochy , speaking before his team’s 2-1 victory, named Cain as San Francisco’s fifth starter. This came as absolutely no surprise, even if Cain has not pitched well this spring — 0-1 with a 7.82 ERA in seven appearances. The Giants still tapped him over Ty Blach (2-1, 4.22), and it would be naive to think Cain’s contract didn’t play a role. He will earn $20 million this season, the final guaranteed year of his deal. Cain probably will make his first regular-season start Friday in San Diego. “I thought Matt handled everything well,” Bochy said of spring training. “He was healthy, he threw strikes. He got better as it went. His last couple starts, you could see him getting better and better with his command. “His secondary pitches really came around there at the end. He deserves to be our fifth starter right now.”. Bochy did not commit to Cain as the long-term solution behind Madison Bumgarner, Johnny Cueto , Jeff Samardzija and ...

Giants Designate Ray Black, Ian Gardeck For Assignment

... before, back in 2016 after Tommy John surgery, and it looks like the Giants are hoping to do it again. He was added to the 40-man this offseason to keep him away from the Rule 5 draft, even though he hasn’t pitched since 2015. That last season was impressive, though, with him striking out nearly 11 batters per nine innings at San Jose, which was enough for the Giants to adjust their roster for him this winter. Eyeballing the current 40-man roster, it looks like Albert Suarez is the likeliest future roster casualty, and it’s at least a touch surprising that he wasn’t jettisoned before one of the young-ish relievers. Considering that Suarez is about 100 times more likely to help the Giants in 2017 than either Black or Gardeck, though, it’s not that surprising. And if everything works out, Neil Ramirez just might be the reliever they were hoping one of ...

Parker Latest Occupant In Giants’ Revolving Left Field
Parker Latest Occupant In Giants’ Revolving Left Field

... from the Nationals system, Marrero, 28, has even fewer big-league at-bats (125) than Parker. “The weight of our lineup will never be on whoever’s in left field,” said Giants general manager Bobby Evans prior to Thursday’s exhibition game against the A’s. “It’s really on the veteran guys. Hopefully the left fielder does his part. But we’re only as strong as really the core of our lineup. The left fielder, in this case being the younger guy, doesn’t have the weight of the world on his shoulders.”. While 28 isn’t an early age by baseball standards, for a Giants left fielder it’s downright youthful. The Giants are about to have their 11 th different Opening Day left fielder in as many seasons. Of the previous 10, nine were 32 or older when the season began – Fred Lewis in 2009 is the lone exception – and five were playing in what would be their final major-league season. If Parker is able to lend some job security to the position, he could end what has become another dubious trend in San Francisco. For as successful as it has been in recent years at drafting and developing ...
